Sex ed should be universal – and without religious bias

Schools Out, the group campaigning for LGBT equality in education, broadly welcomes today’s announcement that sex and relationships education will be compulsory.

Co-chair Sue Sanders has reservations:

“It’s a huge step in the right direction. Every child has the right to know that they are part of a society that includes LGBT people, and every teenager has the right to life-saving information abut safer sex.

“But we’re disappointed by the special treatment given to faith schools. One in 10 teenagers will be trying to make sense of their natural same-sex attraction. For a faith school to tell them that they are sinful is nothing short of abusive.”
