Schools Out welcomes FA anti homophobia project

The DVD on homophobia in football, announced by the FA today, will be a great help to schools in their work to promote equality.

Nigel Tart, from the education campaign group Schools Out, explained:

‘Young people often look up to football stars as role models and try and imitate their style and values.

‘Many schools are doing some excellent work on LGBT issues, especially during February’s LGBT History Month. This progress can easily be undermined if young people feel they need to fit in with a homophobic football culture.

‘For too long, individual players have felt powerless to take a stand against offensive chants and prejudice. Well done to the FA for taking a firm lead.

‘We look forward to a hard hitting film which every school will want to use.’
