Hi Nigel
I’m researching a feature for the Times Educational Supplement on transsexual teachers, and I wondered if it would be possible to put an appeal on your website for people to come forward.
If so, can we say something like this:
I'm a writer with the Times Educational Supplement and I'm hoping to write a feature looking at some of the issues faced by transsexual teachers. You're probably already familiar with newspaper articles along the lines of "School master says 'Call me miss'," but I want to cover this from the point of view of the teacher, rather than the pupils or parents.
I'd like to look at some of the obstacles faced by transsexual people working in schools, and the support they have received, as well as advice they could pass on to help others in a similar position.
I'll also be talking to support groups, but would really appreciate the chance to hear some first hand accounts of what the experience is like.
If you're a teacher who has transitioned, or who is hoping to do so, and you are willing to take part, I'd be really grateful if you could get in touch. I'm happy to respect your anonymity if you prefer, and to discuss the article in more detail before you commit yourself. Please contact me on nick.morrison@tes.co.uk or 0203 194 3257.
Thanks
Nick Morrison
