Dear Friend
I thought you would appreciate being kept up to date with news and would forgive me reminding you about our annual conference in two weeks. As you can see, there is much happening over the next few months and your continued support and prayers are as necessary as ever.
Saturday 12 April 2008 LGCM Annual Conference All members and friends are invited to attend. A wide selection of interesting and topical workshops, a special presentation by renowned cartoonist David Shenton, and the Keynote Address by Dr Nicola Slee are just some of the attractions. This is always an enjoyable day, a good opportunity to meet friends, a great chance to network accompanied by excellent food, and all in a fine, convenient venue. I hope to see you at what will be my last Annual Conference as Chief Executive, so that I can say a personal farewell to as many members and friends as possible.
You may register securely online with PayPal now.
New Polo Shirts Fashionable Polo shirts, tastefully embroidered with the LGCM logo, are now available for the first time. A summer absolute-must-have and at a bargain price. Essential attire for Pride Marches, the Lambeth Conference, and village fetes!

Order now, selecting your size for immediate despatch. They will also be available at the Annual Conference.
Rebuilding Communion: Who pays the Price? Edited by Peter Francis this book is published on 14 April but available at the Annual Conference. The book explores from a wide variety of perspectives what has happened since the 1998 Lambeth Conference and what may happen in the aftermath of this year's Conference.

Order now and be sure of getting a copy as soon as it is available.
Mr John Reaney -v- Hereford Diocesan Board of Finance Anthony Priddis, the hapless Bishop of Hereford, has cost his diocese an estimated £100,000 by discriminating against a gay Christian, John Reaney. The full Judgment of Remedy published on 7th February, is available (but not on-line) from the Employment Tribunals Service. Quote Case No. 1602844/2006 Mr John Reaney -v- Hereford Diocesan Board of Finance
Send £10.00 (inc p&p) cheque to: Employment Tribunals, Field Support Unit, 100 Southgate Street, BURY ST EDMUNDS, Suffolk, IP33 2AQ.
What remains a mystery is the identity of the anonymous backer who gave an assurance that at least a proportion of these costs would be gifted directly to the bishop in the event of his losing the case. In other words there is someone with considerable wealth who so dislikes gay Christians and who is prepared to lose money and with whom the Bishop has colluded in the attempt to deny us legitimate employment. Would that person be willing to identify themselves? Surely they cannot be ashamed of their views!
Thursday 17 July - Sunday 3 August The Lambeth Conference at the University of Kent at Canterbury
LGCM’s main focus will be on hosting a large on-campus stall for the whole conference on the theme ‘Anglicans and Human Rights’ to mark the 60th Anniversary of the UN Declaration on Universal Human Rights, and arranging two public and free performances by the renowned and popular theatrical activist Peterson Toscano on Wednesday 30 July and Thursday 31 July in the Keynes Lecture Theatre, University of Kent, at 8pm.
To reserve your free place(s) please email LGCM as soon as possible at stating your full name, postal address, and telephone number, and how many tickets you would like. They will be despatched in early July. Please invite your friends/organise a group party to attend.
If you are interested in helping us at any time during the conference please let me know. We need people to staff the stall and generally be visible and accessible at all times and ready, if you feel able, to articulate your experiences of being a lesbian or gay Christian to those with little or no first hand knowledge of what it is like.
Calling all musicians It would be helpful if we knew about your musical skills. From time to time we are asked whether we can help choirs/concerts and we need organists/pianists for our own events and services. Please drop me an email if you don't mind us know how talented you are! There's no need to be shy.
22-25 August Greenbelt Festival at Cheltenham Racecourse Last year we helped in the formation of OuterSpace at the Greenbelt Festival. The initiative attracted record attendance and plans are well advanced for an even bolder and more mainstreamed presence at this years Festival. We’ll put you in touch if you wish just send me an email.
LGCM's Church Times Supplement We can still supply copies on request of the much acclaimed supplement we inserted into all copies of the Church Times last month. Just email me with the quantity you would like.
Thank-you for all you do to help LGCM and if you have not joined or renewed your membership, please do so. Your support will help us to continue our work.
Best wishes,
RICHARD KIRKER Chief Executive

The London Lesbian and Gay Film Festival The London Lesbian and Gay Film Festival has a number of films of particular interest to LGCM. For instance, a drama about a love story set within an ex-gay ministry, SAVE ME directed by Robert Cary. Both the gay community and seminarians have praised it for its sensitivity. There are tickets available on Tuesday 8 April at 2pm, NFT1.
Thursday 10 April 2008 God and Sex A Conference exploring the place of faith and spirituality in sexual health and healthy sex.
Location: The Ramada Jarvis Hotel, Granby Street, Leicester Speakers: Philip Sheldrake, Susie Hayward and Andrew Yip.
"God and sex? I just don't see the connection." Those words sum up the view of many people. Even some people of faith have difficulty reconciling spirituality with sexuality. This impairs a holistic view of life and potentially undermines the positive role that faith and faith communities can play in the promotion and maintenance of good sexual health for all.
This conference seeks to provoke thought and discussion in this important and often neglected area and to help participants to explore a more integrated approach to spiritual care and sexual health. Charges per person (including lunch): £45/£35/Free. For more information or to book a place telephone 0116 2733377 or click here.
Tuesday 29 April 2008 at 7pm prompt An Evening with Bishop Gene Robinson Canterbury Press cordially invite friends and supporters of LGCM to this event to celebrate publication of: ‘IN THE EYE OF THE STORM’ By Gene Robinson, Bishop of New Hampshire at: St Mary's Church, Putney High Street, London SW15 1SN (next to the river at the southern end of Putney Bridge)
RSVP by Wednesday 16 April 2008 to Canterbury Press by emailing Michael Addison.
Seeing Christ in Human Rights - An Invitation to Share in a Global Discussion The Lambeth Conference has endorsed the Universal Declaration many times since it was first promulgated in 1948, but we have yet to see any meaningful commitment to promote these rights, especially as they apply to the internal life of the church. In reality some Anglican leaders are contemptuous of these rights.
This is your invitation to participate in a Christ-centered discussion of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights with Anglicans around the world.
‘Seeing Christ in Human Rights’ is intended to promote serious engagement with human rights principles with an eye to developing a practical theology of human rights. Anglicans and other Christians, both learned and grass roots, are invited to visit The Anglican Examiner and post comments to the ‘Seeing Christ’ blog/forum. |
