I've just sent this quote to the Pink Paper, who are doing a feature on sex & relationships education:
The original story is covered in depth at http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/education/7684810.stm
"Schools Out has long called for compulsory sex and relationships education and we welcome the recent announcement as a step in the right direction.
"The invisiblising of LGBT identities in schools is a disgrace. Many LGBT young people leave school without the sexual health knowledge they need to protect themselves.
"It would be a tragedy if the clear need of every child to be taught about the diversity of modern society was outweighed by a school's reactionary ethos or by some parents' homophobic and transphobic values.
"To deny LGBT students access to potentially lifesaving information is tantamount to child abuse.
"We call on Jim Knight to stand firm against calls for special exemptions."
