I think the problem comes whe trying to define a word that is inclusive. I will add my tuppence here, just aid in the kicking off of the debate, but as I am not a teacher I fear that my definitions may be my downfall!!!

Interesting to point out about the black community investigating similar in the 70's and 80's and then to know the final word was selected as Racism/ist. Racism indeed encompasses all creeds and colours, as it would be just as hard to find many words such as Caucasianist/ism, Asianist/ism etc.

I do remember it being acceptable for lesbians to be called gay women, but it seems fashion has swung to lesbians and the men have claimed the g word for themselves. Or is this just media representation and propoganda?

Homophobia and Homophobic encompasses Gay men and Lesbians, in my opinion, but I understand the point of then Bisexuals, Trans persons, Queer and Intersexed et al may feel that they are left out of that equation.

I think that to try and seperate again would end up with smaller minorities again, like Transphobist/ism is going to be less reported but not less of an issue as far as media is concerned, so indeed a word that would encompass all the factors and then find a common thread.

Perhaps we could turn the point on its head and say that these attacks/comments etc aren't coming from the point of view that it is a minority group that has something done to them, but rather a majority group that is doing something to us. This would enable all factors that are not heterosexual to be linked. So a term that is pro-straight as opposed to anti-whatever (though this may of course prove difficult with the Trans or Intersexed faction).
