I am a
professional photographer looking for same sex couples with children willing to
participate in a new project documenting "Rainbow
Families"
to challenge the conventional concept of the family.
I will be
photographing within London from mid-January to mid-March 2010. Complete
confidentiality is assured. Subjects will be part of the
creative
production process as the images will be produced using a digital camera;
allowing the viewing and discussion of which images are used
in the
exhibition. The images will be produced at the subjects home at their
convenience. A few hours will be required for the shoot. You will
receive a
digital copy of the image used for the exhibition.
The project involves the production
and exhibition of 10-15 photographs of Rainbow Families. Each image will be
accompanied by text/drawings
describing the parents' and
children's experiences as a rainbow family. The images and text will challenge
the conventional view of a family and
increase awareness of rainbow
families; a topic is rarely addressed in society and visual arts.
Through
research and meeting members of rainbow families, I have become aware of the
lack of information about rainbow families.
Being part of a
rainbow family can be a very different to the stereotypical norm. Speaking about
it and taking part in this project allows participants
an opportunity
to express experiences and opinions through a new creative means.
I have already
produced two successful exhibitions “Ethnic Minority Domestic Violence
Survivors” and “Ethnic Minorities Coming Out”. Please see
my
website www.sonalle.com
The exhibition
of this project is aimed to start in May 2010. The images will be exhibited in
numerous public and private venues for 6 months so as
to raise
awareness about rainbow families. The exhibition venues confirmed to date
are Stratford Library, Housmans Bookshop and Brady Arts Centre.
I hope you
can help make this happen. I look forward to hearing from you.
